Devito Notches Another SHFTL Win

Rene Devito scorched the Kiwanis DGC Feb. 18 to win the Super Happy Fun Time League. Devito shot a 9 under par 45 to win the match by 14 shots. Will Grant, returning from a hiatus of training for the upcoming 2012 TAG Tournament, finished second. Joey Reed, Evan Hicklin, Larry Mancini and Roy Carter rounded out the top six.

TAG Tourney Course Layout Released

SDGC President Louie Miller has released the basket layout for the 2012 SDGC TAG Tournament slated for March 17 at the Kiwanis DGC. The first round, teeing off at 11 a.m., with feature the red tees to orange baskets layout. Following lunch, the second round will feature the blue tees to yellow baskets layout. The tournament is open to the public and 2012 SDGC TAGs will be issued immediately following the tournament. The cost is $25 and includes membership to the SDGC and all leagues, the annual SDGC Glow in the Dark Tournament, and the 2012 Club Championship. For information, contact Will Grant at 448-2410.

The Santa 7 sleeve at the Kiwanis DGC is gone for the season. Look for the sleeve to return next winter.

Kiwanis DGC Changes

A new tee box is now open on hole 16, to the left of the old tee box. The new location will give discers a straight shot at the Ace Ventura basket location. A new gravel tee box will be installed at that location in the near future.

The following baskets positions changes have also been made and will remain in effect for the rest of the month: Hole 1 – yellow basket to original position; Hole 6 – yellow basket to long position; Hole 8 – yellow basket to short position, orange basket to long position; Hole 14 – yellow basket to right hand position; Hole 16 – orange basket to middle position; Hole 17 – yellow basket to long position.

Rene Devito shot a four under par 50 under cool, calm conditions Feb. 4 to win the Super Happy Fun Time League match. Joey Reed finished second at 52, followed by Chris Faunce, Louie Miller, Larry Mancini and Roy Carter. The league meets Saturdays at 1 p.m., weather permitting, through March 10. The matches are open to the public.

Ace Ventura Challenges Disc Crew

From the twisted side of Mitch Dicken’s mind comes “Ace Ventura”, the new short basket location on Hole 16 at the Kiwanis Disc Golf Course. The basket is just 159 feet from the tees. Unfortunately, the first 150 feet are out of bounds, as is a swath of real estate that continues to the left side of the new basket position. The new location offers a high risk, high reward option. The BGR Supercomputer algorithms predict a whooping 61.4% of all drives on Ace Ventura will land out of bounds, which requires a one stroke penalty AND re-tee. Ace Ventura is now open for your discing pleasure or consternation.

Ace Ventura Basket Sleeve Opens February 1

The month of February will kick off with the opening of the “Ace Ventura” basket sleeve on Hole 16 at the Kiwanis DGC. The new sleeve is located about 120 from the red tees, at the edge of the brush and undergrowth. That entire brush area in now considered out of bounds with a one stroke penalty and mandatory re-tee. The new basket placement will open on Wednesday, Feb. 1. Enjoy!
